Spectrophotometric Determination of Copper

The utility of Patton and Reeder’s indicator, HHSNNA, for the trace spectrophotometric and visual colorimetric determination of Cu 2+ is explored. A wine red complex of composition 1:1 is found to be formed between Cu 2+ and HHSNNA. The complex has λmax at 530 nm with ε = 25,558 L mole -1 cm -1 and is stable for more than 2 hrs. Beer’s law is obeyed between 0 to 1.5 ppm. The developed procedure...

Extraction of Traces of Copper as Tetra-Butylammonium Tetrathiocyanato Copper (II) and Its Spectrophotometric Determination Using Eriochrome Black T

An extraction-spectrophotometric method for the determination of traces of copper (II) is described. The method is based on the quantitative extraction of copper as tetrabutylammonium tetrathiocyanato copper (II) into methyl isobutyl ketone, followed by spectrophotometric determination, using eriochrome black T as a metallochromic indicator. The red-violet mixed complex of copper absorbs at...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Copper Piperazine Dithiocarbamate

Spectrophotometric method for determination of cu(II) in the trace quantities was developed by using piperazine dithiocarbamate as ligand in ammonium chloride-ammonium hydroxide medium at pH -9.5. The procedure developed was applied for the estimation of cu(II) in microgram quantities in the water samples and the method developed was found to be simple and sensitive. Spectrophotometry is one of...

Selective flotation-spectrophotometric determination of trace copper(II) in natural waters, human blood and drug samples using phenanthraquinone monophenylthiosemicarbazone.

Copper(II) forms 1:1 and 1:2 intense red complexes with phenanthraquinone monophenylthiosemicarbazone (PPT) at pH 3-3.5 and > or =6.5, respectively. These complexes exhibit maximal absorbance at 545 and 517 nm, the molar absorptivity being 2.3 x 10(4) and 4.8 x 10(4) l mol(-1) cm(-1), respectively. However, the 1:1 complex was quantitatively floated with oleic acid (HOL) surfactant in the pH ra...
